Jameos del Agua

An auditorium designed by César Manrique

Conceived by the Lanzarote born artist, César Manrique, Los Jameos del Agua bring together two aspects, respect for the habitat of the tiny crabs and cultural activities. Next to the cave which is home to these creatures is a garden of palm trees with an artificial lake and also a museum devoted to volcanoes which provides several interactive activities. Moreover, the auditorium built inside takes advantage of the acoustics of this volcanic cave and hosts all kinds of concerts and events within a unique landscape.
Jameos del Agua is the first Center for Art, Culture and Tourism created by César Manrique, and is, for many, the paradigm of his aesthetic ideology: the harmony between nature and artistic creation.

The beauty of an underground lake

In this volcanic cave in the north of Lanzarote, it is impossible not to be affected by the quiet, almost magical atmosphere. Its natural lake, within the cave itself, is slightly illuminated by the sun and is home to an albino crab, unique in the world. The café located inside the cave becomes a compulsory stopping point to have a light refreshment while enjoying the beauty of this place.

His privileged mind and his hands, full of life, were the ones that shaped the wild and dark basalt to model a place where harmony, beauty, peace and calm dominate the area. White, blue, green and black, the colors that Manrique gave to his island, were mixed over a singular and extraordinary beautiful path that will make you dream and imagine.
