To help you prepare your trip, below you will find a selection of unique places to see in Lanzarote – each of them a unique and spectacular experience.
We have already mentioned a few weeks ago the essential places to see in Lanzarote, but to discover this wonderful island in-depth you should know something more about it.
TRY DISHES GRILLED A OVER VOLCANO
Visiting the Timanfaya National Park is an experience that you should not miss if you plan a holiday on Lanzarote. But if want to live a unique experience, you should take advantage of this visit to have lunch at El Diablo Restaurant. All the meat that you will find on the menu is prepared by the heat of a volcano, taking advantage of the high temperatures inside it. An iconic work by César Manrique, located next to the parking area in the center of the Fire Mountains, allows visitors to see live how that natural heat from the earth cooks what they are going to taste later.
It is one of the things that can only be done in Lanzarote!
LA GERIA
The landscapes of La Geria are a Protected Natural Area. And visiting them is another of the essential things to do in Lanzarote. Because, in addition, it is the place where fire and water make incredible wines.
Wines with the designation of origin Lanzarote are a real wonder. This is due to the peculiar vineyards of La Geria, covered with picón (granulate of volcanic rock), which retain the humidity of the night and create perfect conditions for viticulture.
These enormous extensions of vineyards are unique and very different from those of any other place in the world. The vines are planted in the center of a kind of inverted cone and surrounded by semicircles of stones that protect them from strong winds.
CHARCO DE LOS CLICOS – A VERY PECULIAR VOLCANIC LANDSCAPE
El Charco de los Clicos is located in the periphery of El Golfo. It is a volcanic crater open to the sea. The landscapes to visit in Lanzarote are incredibly diverse, and the Charco de los Clicos is one of those that you should not miss.
It is also known as Charco Verde (green lake), due to the intense green color of the algae that grows in it, and that makes bathing in this area not allowed. You can combine the visit of this place with a dinner or a lunch in the same town of El Golfo, to taste fresh fish from the area and enjoy the incredible views along the coast.
CRACK OF MONTAÑA BLANCA
One of the most curious places to see in Lanzarote is this volcanic crack. It is accessed directly by walking about 100 meters along a hillside located next to where you have to leave the car. The path is very simple.
Walking through these narrow lava cracks of the Montaña Blanca volcano with those vertical walls is just impressive.
UNIQUE PATHS BETWEEN MOON LANDSCAPES
If you are a fan of hiking, you have to know that you will find a lot of routes in Lanzarote.
Path of the Gracioseros:
One of the best places for hiking in Lanzarote is in the area in front of La Graciosa. It’s a 4km trail one way and the first part of the trail, around Yé towards Guinate, is along a cobblestone path, and zigzags downwards. Then the trail runs along the cliffs of Famara and the volcanic rocks make it a bit slippery. The views of the coast during the walk are fantastic, and it is possible to admire several natives, endemic species of fauna and flora.
The Ajaches:
In the southwest of Lanzarote we find the landscape Los Ajaches. This is a large volcanic formation in what is believed to be the oldest part of the island. The path is not long, around 6 km, but it is very steep, which makes it one of the most challenging places to go hiking in Lanzarote. You start in a village called Femés.
The vegetation along the hike is beautiful. You can admire birds of prey and seabirds living on the coastal cliffs.
Caldera Blanca:
It is one of the highest peaks on the island and one of the best places for hiking in Lanzarote. The trek passes through a large volcanic area. The walk takes place over the foothills of the Fire Mountains that were formed through the eruptions of 1730 and 1736. It lasts 4 hours in total. The starting point is the church of the holy Dolores. The trail follows marked routes, and it is an easy walk, suitable for families with children.
CONCERT IN A VOLCANIC TUBE
The Jameos del Agua, as well as the Cueva de los Verdes, are located inside a volcanic tunnel produced by the eruptions of the Volcan de la Corona.
Jameos del Agua:
A dinner accompanied by a timple concert is a different way of experiencing the beauty of Jameos del Agua. At the end of the concert, you can continue the evening on the Jameos del Agua dance floor. Let yourself be carried away by the smooth rhythm of a DJ session.
Thus, the magic of this unique space in the world is combined several nights a week with music and gastronomy.
Cueva de los Verdes:
Come and enjoy a unique experience with a concert of classic music in the magnificent volcanic auditorium of the Cueva de los Verdes, an impressive system of underground caves located in the north of the island. You can enjoy a wide selection of classical and contemporary music performed by professional musicians in a spectacular space, where the acoustics seems to be otherworldly.
In the Cueva de los Verdes you will find a labyrinth of galleries and passageways, that lead to a magnificent natural auditorium with a capacity of 500 people.
